The Paleo Recipe Book

Herbs and Spices ReportIt’s interesting that our genes are pretty much 99.99% the same as the genes of our Paleolithic ancestors. I didn’t know that and you may not have know that either.

I came across a great 15 page report by author, Nikki Young (Paleo Cookbook Series), which shows you some surprising facts and convincing proof on how we have gone wrong in the kitchen concerning today’s diet.  It helps answer the question: “What is the Paleo Diet?”

Being true that our genes are so similar to our Paleolithic ancestors surely should mean our diet should be similar.  Yet our lack of knowledge,  or maybe just our character gets in the way, and in her 15 page report about the Paleo Diet shows us how we’re our own worst enemy.

Sure they lived shorter lives, but it was usually conditions beyond their control like severe weather conditions, calamity, diseases, and BIG animals.  However, degenerative diseases like diabetes, cancer or heart conditions where not a part of their lives.   All these diseases came much later as society changed its agriculture.  They came because of a mismatch between our genetic structure and our way of life.

You hear it all the time.  These days ailments and many conditions are just accepted,  and sometimes people think it’s just ok to have a new diagnosed skin ailment, muscle ache or food intolerance.  Like it’s trendy or something.

We know it, we hear it in the news almost every day, people don’t exercise enough these days.  Its crazy compared to our ancestors who journeyed, ran and sprinted up to 12 miles a day.  And an hour at the gym is hard?

This excellent report points out how the revolution of our agriculture has wreaked havoc on the human body.  Our ancestors were stronger, taller, and believe it or not had larger brains than us.   Sure they probably didn’t use their brain in the way we do today.

Our ancestor’s “organically killed” meat had 30% less fat than the meat we eat today.  It’s because the animals we eat today are not the same wild animals they ate.   Animals today don’t get proper exercise and basically sit around waiting to be slaughtered.

Our ancestors ate a balanced diet that consisted of 65% meat and 35% other gathered foods.  Of course this could have varied depending on their hunting skills and accessibility,  but for the most part they had to depend on what was available by nature.

Also, season changes would dictate their diet.  Through such things as berries, seeds, bulbs, melons, flowers, nuts, fruits, stalks and roots.  They wouldn’t have had much access to grains.  But they would have been cooked thoroughly if eaten at all.  This would explain a lot as to why wheat intolerance is a plaque to our way of life.

Of course they had no access to processed foods, and as this report points out, what our bodies need is access to high protein, low carbohydrate diet and PLENTY of exercise!   We are simply not equipped to handle processed carbohydrates or even and overload of them.

But what do we do?  We eat way to much of these things and the result is our now weakened immune systems that brings on obesity, diabetes, and other chronic sickness.

Fruits and vegetables are the main source of carbohydrates in the Paleo Diet just like our acient ancestors.

In this excellent report it points out great information about the Paleo Diet.  It will provide you information how our ancestors lived.  It’s quite the wake-up call for those of us that put up a not so healthy lifestyle because of our poor diet.
